{"id":48,"date":"2026-02-06T12:11:48","date_gmt":"2026-02-06T12:11:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/donmaruta.ddns.net\/wordpress\/?p=48"},"modified":"2026-02-06T12:21:05","modified_gmt":"2026-02-06T12:21:05","slug":"london-santander-bike-locations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/donmaruta.ddns.net\/wordpress\/?p=48","title":{"rendered":"London Santander Bike Locations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>For the past month, I have been working on a method for the real-time tracking of the availability of London Santander Bikes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I used the website&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.maptiler.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MapTiler<\/a>&nbsp;for the base mapping and hosting of the GeoJSON file with the bike locations. I also used the Transport for London (TfL)&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/api.tfl.gov.uk\/BikePoint\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">API<\/a>&nbsp;in order to get the real-time number of standard bikes, e-bikes and the number of empty docks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each icon represents the location of a docking station, and uses a colour scheme, with red symbolising 0 facilities available, orange symbolising 1 \u2013 4 facilities available and black for 5 or more facilities available. Within the map window, the colour of the icon is selected by the lowest value of standard bikes, e-bikes and empty docks.&nbsp;Clicking on a bike icon shows the name of the docking station, number of standard bikes, e-bikes and empty docks available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This method also allows users to search for bikes nearest to their location by clicking on the icon below.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"48\" height=\"46\" src=\"https:\/\/donmaruta.ddns.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/download.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The full website can be found\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/donmaruta.ddns.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/LondonBikeLocationsV4.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>.
